MAIRI Ella Challen didn't need to jump down a mysterious rabbit hole or magically walk through a looking glass to get to Wonderland.

All the little Scots actress had to do was get up, be driven across Hollywood and walk on to a studio lot to meet up with pals Johnny Depp and Tim Burton on the set of their latest fantasy blockbuster.

That's because Mairi, 11, is one of the stars of new hit film Alice In Wonderland.

While all the movie hype has been about stars Depp and Mia Wasikowska, it's little Mairi, whose family are from East Kilbride, playing the original Alice - classic blue pinafore dress and all - who everyone remembers from the books and cartoons.

The movie is set up as a sequel to the original Lewis Carroll stories, with a grown-up Alice (Wasikowska) returning to the magical kingdom for more adventures.
